But, Officer . . .

According to this Contra Costa Times article don't even try to provide an officer with an excuse for your traffic violation - they have heard it all before. Yet, one officer advises that this worked on him -

Tracy Police Capt. John Espinoza said he told a driver he pulled over for running a red light he wouldn't give him a ticket if he had a good excuse.

"The guy started crying and said "I just found out my wife is cheating on me." Espinoza said, "I told him I had heard that one before and he's got to do better than that." Then the guy says, "It was with my dad." Espinoza said he let the man off with a warning.
See, dads can get you out of trouble even after you are married.
