Red Light Cameras Do Not Improve Safety

The Truth About Cars has an interesting article on conclusions reached from preliminary collision data after the installation of red light cameras. The data shows that the red light cameras in Corpus Christi, TX increased collisions by 14%, injury accidents by 28%, and rear end collisions by 33%.

Representative Solomon Ortiz, Jr. has introduced a Bill in the Texas Legislature to require public hearings before any camera can be installed on any state road. In a video message Representative Ortiz said
"A red light camera program shouldn’t just be a cash cow for cities, and I think that you deserve to have input on these controversial cameras."
