Rumors Abound That BMW Will Focus More On Building MINIs

The Switchback has written an article based on undisclosed "sources inside BMW and MINI" that, in light of the global shift toward the purchase of small, efficient cars, and the current MINI range as a producer of unique “premium small cars”, BMW will further expand the MINI range to increase appeal to a wider group of potential MINI customers. BMW's Oxford Plant is reportedly seeking to employ, or re-employ, up to 500 temporary workers for an expected surge in demand starting in May 2009.

I don't mind dropping some cash for a nice small car, but I can't justify the current Mini's cost. And in my opinion, the Clubman is outrageously over-priced. Obviously a good many people will pay the premium price, but it just doesn't seem like a sustainable formula. This is the same reason I won't by a Smart ForTwo. You really don't get much for your money... other than a stylish, niche car.
