A lot of consumers believe brake dust on wheels is a quality issue and, as a result, it was one of the factors considered by J. D. Power and Associates in its 2009 Initial Quality Study. Brake dust was given the same weight in the survey as more serious, mechanical malfunctions.
Maybe that is one big reason MINI came in last in the Study. However, the Jaguar XF had one of the highest numbers of complaints about brake dust. If that category was eliminated the Jaguar would only have advanced one place on the ultimate list.
