CHP Ticketing For No Lights On In Daylight Headlight Sections

In these days of cash-strapped government the California Highway Patrol is now ticketing vehicles who fail to turn on their lights on roadways marked with Black and White "Daylight Headlight Section" signs for not turning on their headlights. (If the sign is yellow and black it is merely advisory and you won't be ticketed for having your lights off.) The fine being meted out is $203.

What a way to balance the budget. You go CHP. Nevermind the Amber Alerts and DUI's, it's those disobedient drivers who are driving in the daylight without their lights on that are the real scoundrels.

I just got ticketed today, just outside Lincoln, CA. I didn't even see or notice the sign. Not much of a warning. Just said turn headlights on. No warning about possible citations. Really stinks!!

I was also ticketed for this same thing on HWY 65 near Lincoln. I just got my $221 ticket too...I am wondering if this will put a point on my record and if so I am going to fight it! The ticket is catorgorized as "Failure to obey signals/signs" - This is not justified! I did see the sign and it was also 4:30PM on a Sunny July day. I didn't think it was "Mandatory"-and as I drove away I noticed TONS of other people without their lights on too. So I guess I was just the lucky girl that he picked in that moment....Ahhh so irritating!
