According to a Los Angeles Times article, discussed by KickingTires, a study of Los Angeles residents concluded that those who don’t own a car, and live in neighborhoods with a high density of fast-food restaurants, weighed an average of 12 pounds more than car owners in the same area. KickingTires thinks the result may be purely economic -
"[t]hose without cars tend to be worse-off financially, spend less time at full-service restaurants and make fewer trips to the grocery store."We think it is more indicative of the lack of good-tasting, nutritious and inexpensive food choices within the two block distance most Angelenos are willing to walk.
