Please Use The Drive-Thru To Keep Our Lights On

The autogreenblog reports that, over the Labor Day weekend, a Burger King in Hillside, New Jersey tested a MotionPower energy harvester from New Energy Technologies. Drive thru users' cars rolled over a metal speed-bump that, when depressed, produced 2000 watts. Since it was just a test, Burger King didn't actually benefit from free electricity but customers were shown a very small light show to demonstrate the system. Eventually the system might provide the restaurant with collected kinetic energy to fuel its operations. Similar devices will be installed at the Four Seasons in Washington, DC and at the Holiday Inn Express in Baltimore. Here is a Fox News report on the technology:
