Beachcomber Headed For Production - Goodbye Clubman As We Now Know You

MINI is supposedly ready to put one of two competing versions of the Beachcomber concept into production. One is the original Beachcomber concept design and uses the Moke name (inside the company). The other is more compact with three doors and is called the Canyon Coupe.

The Moke will be based on a pillarless version of the Countryman’s platform that will also underpin the next generation MINI Clubman. The production version will ditch the concept’s doorless layout, using four doors with the rear ones mounted as suicide doors.

The Canyon Coupe is to be a reinterpretation of the “beach car” concept with a shortened Countryman platform and MINI’s new ALL4 all-wheel-drive system. The vehicle will use a conventional three-door layout with four individual seats.

MINI is expected to choose at least one of these versions for production by early next year.
