MotoringFile reports that the present model of the MINI hatchback, code named the R56, will be replaced with a new design and a new codename, the F56. MotoringFile believes that this means the F56 will be a BMW MINI co-developed front wheel drive vehicle that will share engines, the upcoming UKL1 platform, along with better drivetrain options.
Yet, the R56 is not yet dead.
BMWBlog reports that, according to
Autocar UK, Saab is lining up abid to buy the rights to the R56 platform in order to build a small car that will compete in the premium compact segment. Saab already has a deal in place to buy MINI’s 1.6-liter turbo engine.
