Automotive News reports the speedometer and tachometer were moved out of the center and put over the steering wheel, and window and door lock controls were moved to the doors in the new MINI because, according to BMW's Head of MINI Peter Schwarzenbauer,
"Yes, we did it because we listened to customers and because of J.D. Power," says Peter Schwarzenbauer, BMW board member in charge of Mini. "We made the changes because of the U.S."
MINI has ranked near the bottom of J.D. Power and Associates' Initial Quality Study, and the company believes the was dinged for "
awkward and hard to use controls."
