Interesting July auto sales numbers are out. Whether the "carpocalypse"* is over will almost certainly depend on the impact of Cash for Clunkers on these numbers. Will the "up-tick" be short-lived and losses return when the program runs out of money or are these carmakers now "decoupled" from the recession? Who knows? However, while MINI lost almost 4% over the same time last year and BMW lost almost 32%, Subaru gained 34%, Volvo gained 26%, Hyundai gained 12%, Mercury gained 7%, KIa gained 5%, Ford gained 3% and VW gained 1%. Go figure.
*Special thanks to
