
The South Dakota Supreme Court upheld a police officer's actions when he seized 15 cats from a woman who was driving with the animals running free inside her car. In a 3-2 decision the Court ruled that the cats were a distraction and interfered with the driver's ability to see where she was going. The driver nearly backed into the officer's patrol car at a convenience store parking lot because of the cats in her back window.
