MINI Cooper Up In Smoke

There have long been stories of MINIs spontaneously combusting. This video purportedly shows one such vehicle. According to the notes and comments the owner, a lieutenant in the Air Force that lives in Grass Valley spent all day in Carmel surfing and was driving back home with his surfboard mounted on the roof . The MINI lost power steering (a recall was made on early models to separate the power steering fan harness and install fan guards since early models would catch fire if the fan seized from road debris embedding in the fan housing) and the owner pulled off Hwy 101 in San Jose where the vehicle promptly caught fire and nearly caused the house and surrounding field to be set ablaze.

Anyone know the unfortunate owner?
