According to an article in the United Kingdom's Oxford Mail, spare gear cables are unavailable (at least in the U.K.) until March 20, 2014 due to a supply problem. If you need a gear cable the article recommends that you visit your MINI dealer since they should provide a courtesy car until the part becomes available.
