According to The Truth About Cars New Mexico will increase red light camera fines from $75.00 to $100.00 if the bill is signed by the Governor in April. The increase in fines is to make up a budget shortfall. Apparently, the State is concerned about the legality of the red light cameras. So they are looking to buy "goodwill" by sending $23.40 to the court automation fund, $7.20 to the “traffic safety fund” and $5.40 to the judicial education fund from each ticket. Sounds to us like a bribe to the judiciary to keep the program intact. How many judges do you think will recuse themselves for having a financial interest in a finding of guilt over a challenged ticket?
