Tahoe Weekend Recap - August 18 & 19, 2018

Looks like the NorCal MINI members had a great weekend up in Lake Tahoe. Here is Anita and Christoph's recap.

We met at 9am at East Bay MINI in Pleasanton and enjoyed bagels, donuts and coffee courtesy of the dealership and Rebekka Murray, marketing manager. We had 13 cars on this run, including 2 day-pass members and 1 new member join that day.

For this run, Anita and Christoph tried a rally-style group drive, where instead of attempting to regroup after each traffic light, we had designated stops where we would regroup. Here is the route for the day: https://goo.gl/maps/BdnnLjSe4Fq

The first stop was at the Fruit Bowl off of highway 88 in Stockton, where there was plenty of fresh fruit...and pie! One of our members met us there to join the rest of the drive.

The group stayed together for the rest of the drive to the town of Sutter Creek, where we went our separate ways for lunch. We caught the end of a farmer’s market and could listen to free music from the “Jug Band Festival.” Just before 1pm, we got back together for a giveaway drawing and some photos (check out more pictures on Facebook).

After Sutter Creek, we drove up Shake Ridge Road for miles and miles of twisty roads and then merged back onto highway 88. We found a scenic viewpoint right above Silver Lake for some more photos, and then went our separate ways. A few members chose to make it a day trip and drove home from Meyers, while the rest of us continued into South Lake Tahoe for the evening, where some members relaxed by the lake, some enjoyed free music at Heavenly Village, and some even went to a Charlie Puth concert!

The next morning, 8 cars met at 10am to drive around the Lake and head home: https://goo.gl/maps/U88m7JmXWP92

Unfortunately, the parking situation at Emerald Bay was impossible to stop for photos, so we continued to Tahoe City for brunch at Rosie’s Cafe.

From there, we drove up 89 to old highway 40, where we had some stunning view of Donner Lake and then avoided highway 80 traffic from Truckee to Cisco Grove.

A few of us make one final stop at Ikeda’s in Auburn for more pie before the long drive home in typical Sunday traffic.
