2019 Blackhawk All British Car Show Recap

All British Car Show – Blackhawk, Danville

This annual event was hosted by our fellow Mini friends from MOASF and it was nice to get some support from NorCal.

It was an early start on a Sunday morning after spending much of the day on Saturday getting cars prepared for the show. Our small group met Starbucks in Pleasanton. It was a misty overcast cool morning – but this did not dampen our spirits. After a short meeting we set out for the short drive up to Blackhawk.

Leaving Starbucks we headed north on 680 in a caravan being led by two classic Mini’s followed by another eight modern MINI’s. The pace was steady as it was being led by me in my 54 yr old Morris Mini Minor. ‘Bobby’ doesn’t like to drive too fast with his little 998cc 43hp engine J.

On arrival at Blackhawk, the group split between those who had registered to show their cars and those who were here for the social viewing side only. The people who were showing were sent off to park in their respective categories. NorCal had representation in Classic Mini, Gen 1 MINI, Gen2 MINI and Gen 3 MINI.

People parked their cars and then got out their detailing cloths and products to get the cars ready for the judging part of the day. Whilst we were preparing the cars – we were joined by three more NorCal members who had made their own way to the show.

Later in the morning, the sun decided to come out and this made the rest of the day most enjoyable. Each of the entrants to the show were given a voting form to judge each of the categories. There were some amazing cars on display and the judging was very difficult.

After lunch the results of the raffle and the judging was passed out. NorCal members did well with Alex Tildesley winning best Gen 1 MINI for the second year on the trot with his 2004 R53 MC40. Christoph Fritsch with his R61 Paceman and a new member Tae Hyun Noh with his R56 Cooper both won best Gen 2 with equal scores. Well done to all three of you J.

Overall – this was a fun day for all and it was really good to be able to show off our cars at an event such as this.
