New details are emerging about the upcoming MINI Speedster and MINI Coupe. MotoringFile indicates the cars will be based on the R57 but with a wider track and wheel arches. The headlights will have a more raked look, as seen in the Crossover concepts, and will curve into a wider grille. The windshield will be slightly more raked and lower than the stock R57 design.
The Speedster will have a twin buttress top with integrated rollbars. The Speedster's conventional trunk will have a short deck before it turns downward toward the tail-lamps. There will be a larger rear (faux) air intake area. There will be unique trim and color options for both the Coupe and the Speedster.
The coupe is essentially the same as the Speedster but with a fixed sloping roof and low rounded side windows.
MINI will limit initial model range to S and JCW models only. Only the car bodies will be built at Oxford.
