We previously reported that run flat tires will no longer be standard equipment on new MINIs (they will be available as an option for a premium). Now, The Truth About Cars, citing Autoweek, reports run flat tires are generally in retreat throughout the industry. They now account for less than one percent of the U.S. market. Apparently, the retreat could be because of expense and compromised driving dynamics. Vehicles formerly equipped with run flats, such as the MINI, BMW M, Porsche, Corvette, Taurus SHO and Cadillac SRX, no longer have them and don't come with a spare tire. Instead, they all come with conventional tires and and a can of sealant.
