These eco-friendly bamboo taxis were commissioned by the mayor of the Filipino town of Tabontabon as an alternative to the town’s motorcycles which are the towns main source of transportation and sport up to six people. The mayor saw this as a safety threat and he decided to commission a low-cost alternative.
The taxis are approximately 90% bamboo and run on locally sourced coconut biodiesel. There are two taxis, "ECO1 and ECO2," that can seat twenty and eight passengers, respectively.
