More Details On The Speedster And The Broadspeed

The advertising slogan for the Speedster is "MINI Amplified To 11," a take on the answer to the old rock band joke - "how loud do you play?" The Speedster is taken from the current Cabrio (R57) platform, but, with a wider track for a compact look with wheel arches with typical MINI cladding.

The headlights are more raked into the corners and surround a wide MINI grille. The S will have a hood mounted air intake positioned as if it is a bulge on the bonnet with two lines disappearing before the windscreen meets the bonnet. The windscreen is more raked back than a typical MINI. The cockpit is the same as the current MINI but will have new color and trim pieces. There are no rear seats - the rear passenger compartment is covered by a twin buttress canopy that secures the hood. Roll bars are positioned at the front of these buttresses, the rear deck is short and stubby with the MINI tail lamps, and the exhaust like the MINI Cooper S is centrally mounted but the rear intake is larger as is the front intake.

The MINI Speedster will be available in a new unique shade of orange that in high sunlight turns bright gold, a unique shade of gold that again in sunlight reveals a rust type of effect, a new blue which is gray in tone like the the top of a Great white Shark, and a new metallic green that is more vibrant than the original light green.

MINI has added a roof to the Speedster to make it a coupe and will call it the "Broadspeed." The engines on the Speedster and Broadspeed, both two seaters, will, at first, be limited to the twin scroll turbo as found in the MINI Cooper S and JCW model. Other engines are scheduled to be added later. Additional details are available in this article at the BMWBlog.
