Overall, the JCW Paceman is very similar to its Countryman counterpart, which itself is a niche product playing in an already difficult-to-define performance segment. But since it has two fewer doors, less room in the back and a slightly smaller boot, the JCW Paceman's position within the market is even narrower. And it's not exactly cheap... In fact, at just short of half-a-million, the auto version is the most expensive model in the MINI line-up.
That said, the MINI JCW Paceman has so much personality — embodied by the inclusion of that firecracker exhaust — that it's easy to forgive it a few of its foibles. Thing is, for around R20k more, you could get the altogether more premium, more focused, more powerful — well, just plain better — BMW M135i.
