Based on a survey by GMAC (isn't that a bankrupt corporation?) the Los Angeles Times reports that only New York, New Jersey and Hawaii motorists scored lower than California motorists when asked questions on their states' drivers license examinations. Check it out and see if you can beat the national average of 76.6%.
